Baptism is a ceremony when a person is accepted into the church and it is the beginning of that persons spiritual life. This can occur at any age, from infant to adult, so finding a suitable baptism gift depends on the person being baptized. It is not absolutely necessary for everyone attending to give a baptism gift, but it is definitely a nice gesture to mark this special once-in-a-lifetime event. If you have been asked to be a Godparent to the person being baptized, then a gift is almost essential. In the eyes of the church, the Godparents will be responsible for raising the child in the ways of the church if something unforeseen happens to the parents.

There is a wide array of gift ideas for baptisms. For very young infants, something personalized from the Godparents would be a great idea, such as a picture frame with the baptism date and a photograph of the Godparents with the child, or a cross wall hanging, a childs first Bible with the names and dates printed in the front, a first cross necklace or personalized bracelet with cross attached, a Noahs Ark item (a quilt, bank, lamp, puzzle, or figurine), praying stuffed animal or a guardian angel animal, a silver engraved cup or a gift basket with an assortment of small gifts. Often times, in the case of purchasing a first necklace or bracelet, they can be inserted in small engraved silver gift boxes. These would definitely be kept for a lifetime.

If the child being baptized in going into his or her toddler years many of these same ideas would be good options, but there are others that would also be appropriate for the older child such as bible building blocks, a tote bag filled with Christian books and coloring books for use when going to church, an embroidered bible verse framed for his or her room, or a praying or musical stuffed bear or lamb. Something totally unusual, but also unique, that could be given from the Godparents would be a framed share of stock in the childs name from the company where they work. Another nice idea would be decorated gift boxes that would have sections for the remembrances and paperwork from the baptism and additional sections for confirmation, and their future wedding, making it a complete spiritual history of their life and a wonderful heirloom.

For the adult that is being baptized, most of the above ideas would not be appropriate, except for the jewelry. A silver or gold cross necklace, bracelet, charm or pin would be gorgeous and greatly admired. Other baptism gifts for the adult could be plaques with inspirational quotes, a nice Bible, a CD with Christian music, or a Christmas ornament.

Other people attending the baptism may want to give a little something special for the occasion. Some ideas for these may be a coffee cup or key ring with an inspirational message, cross-shaped cookies wrapped with a cookie cutter attached or a decorated cake with the persons name, cross and date of baptism that could be enjoyed by the entire church congregation.

There are many baptism gift ideas that there should be no problem finding the perfect one for the special person of honor, just make sure you consider the persons age when choosing the gift.
