How to Associate Metadata With Folders in SharePoint
- 1). Go through the folder structure, and identify the different types of metadata that you can include. Have as many different forms of metadata as possible to maximize the number of ways the users can search for data.
- 2). Visit settings. Under settings, select “create column.” This feature allows you to create the different columns that you can organize the data under.
- 3). Fill multiple columns with metadata by clicking “actions,” highlighting the entire column, right-clicking and pointing to “fill,” where the option “fill down” becomes available. Click it.
- 4). Go to “actions” and click “standard view.” Click “yes.” Wait for the changes to finish. Repeat this process until all the documents are assigned metadata.
- 5). Choose to show all the items without folders.
