How to Improve MPG on a Nissan Frontier
- 1). Clean out your Frontier and reduce any unnecessary items inside your vehicle. For every 100 extra pounds in your vehicle, you can expect to see fuel economy reduced by up to 2 percent.
- 2). Check your tires to make sure they're properly inflated. Estimates from the Department of Energy indicate that properly inflated tires can improve fuel efficiency by 3.3 percent. Properly inflated tires also promote more even wear on the tires, which in turn will make them last longer.
- 3). Accelerate evenly and slowly to improve fuel efficiency. Pounding on the accelerator from a complete stop will reduce fuel efficiency in your Frontier by up to 20 percent.
- 4). Tighten the gas cap after filling up to prevent fuel from evaporating. Each year, up to 147 million gallons of fuel are lost in the United States through evaporation, according to statistics from the Car Care Council.
- 5). Use cruise control when on the highway. The cruise control feature in your Frontier will result in traveling at a constant speed and eliminate a pattern of accelerating and slowing down repeatedly. Traveling at a constant speed uses less fuel and will increase your miles per gallon.
