Dogmesticated - Domesticating Your Dog With Dog Behavior Rules

Living Happy with your Dog Starts with Dog Behavior Training In order to have a tail wagging, happy life with your dog, you must teach your dog a few domestic dog behavior rules.
Bedside Manners - Your dog must learn how to share.
There is no place better to start teaching this behavior than in the bedroom.
Your dog must understand that you own a king size bed, and this is as large as its going to get.
And, you are not willing to sleep on the sofa so he can have a comfortable nights sleep.
Your dog must learn you do not sleep curled up in a ball like he does.
You sleep stretched out, fully extended lengthwise on the bed.
And let your dog know you are on to him if he tries to get away with sticking his tail out pin straight as far as it will reach, while doing the same with his tongue on the other end to take up the most space possible.
Table Manners - It is important to teach your dog which dish belongs to him.
Show your dog his dish is the one brightly decorated with paw prints, and is conveniently located on the floor with "special" food just for him.
This will help to avoid confusion over the food on the table.
Proper Manners, Socially - when it comes to your dog showing his affection by kissing, it is strongly suggested you teach him the proper order for doing so.
Your dog is to kiss you first, and then go off to socialize with other dogs by sniffing and smelling the butt's of any other dogs or animals.
They shouldn't do this first and then coming running to you to show affection.
They should also learn that they shouldn't be kissing fanatics.
Some dogs just love to lick.
Teach your dog what is and isn't appropriate amounts of "affection".
Another social behavior to work on is excessive hyper activity.
The stairway is not their racetrack, and your dog's goal is not to beat you to the finish landing.
Cutting you off at the turn by tripping won't let him win either.
Whining and Begging - Should you happen to, by some amazing feat, manage to shut the bathroom door with your dog left on the outside, I highly recommend showing your dog that your bathroom does not have a second exit secretly hidden.
Their whining, howling or whimpering will not get them anywhere because you will in fact exit through the very door from which you entered.
So what do you do if your dog is not dogmesticated? Begin by teaching them the rules of dog behavior.
Stick to your rules.
Like kids, dogs are always going to push the limit on the rules outlined for them.
Breaking them just once, by allowing the dog on the couch will only make them think they can do it all the time, even if that means pushing you off.
Once these rules of etiquette behavior are mastered, you and your dog will begin to enjoy dogtogether.
