You usually have a small stick which you pull the man hole open with, and then pull the ladder down.
These are either made of timber, plastic or aluminum.
They either fold out horizontally with three or four sections, or they fold out vertically like multiple scissors joined together.
A wooden loft ladder can easily be made up by someone who has a bit of woodworking skills, or you can go and get a very nice looking aluminum one made up.
Getting into an attic is made very easy with a well set up ladder, which you can get off the shelf for most houses.
You simply need to check that the roof height is the same as the ladder that you are getting, or they will become dangerous to use.
