10 Facts Every Rhinoplasty Client Needs to Know!

103 7
We all know that rhinoplasty is one of the more 'serious' forms of cosmetic surgery.
Your rhinoplasty surgeon needs skill and experience in shaping not just other body parts, but noses, to craft the look that you want.
However, coming out of rhinoplasty with a feeling of success is as much about what you know about the procedure as what your surgeon knows.
Nobody should go into a nose surgery procedure without knowing that: There are limits to what rhinoplasty can do Your doctor needs to work within the limits set by your existing bone and cartilage structure.
Radical changes may not be recommended for aesthetic reasons, but they may also not be medically possible.
You need to get your surgeon inside your mind The better your surgeon understands the reasons that you want a nose job, the better they'll be able to shape a nose that matches your expectations.
Try to explain yourself in several different ways, and if your doctor rephrases your answers in a way that doesn't quite seem right, explain a little more.
The final shape takes time to emerge It may be around 12 months before your new nose has settled into its permanent shape.
We don't recommend revision rhinoplasty before that time.
Your nose may look strange for some time It is not uncommon for noses to develop new lumps and bumps in weak spots due to swelling, which may last for over 2 months.
Don't stress that your surgeon has made a 'mistake' or that your body is reacting strangely until your nose has had plenty of time to settle in! Pay attention to qualifications AND experience There are literally hundreds of cosmetic practitioners in Australia that are licensed and trained only to perform less specialist procedures, like injecting Botox or inserting breast implants.
Your rhinoplasty surgeon should detail his experience with nose jobs, not only in cosmetic surgery, to give you confidence in his ability.
You should be generally healthy before undergoing nose surgery All surgeries come with inherent risks - the general anesthesia is risky, cutting into your body is risky, and the medications that you'll need to be on come with risks.
If you have existing health problems like high blood pressure, it is safer to take steps to resolve these first.
You won't be able to see your new nose for a while You won't be able to see your 'new' nose for some time.
Initially it will be bandaged and splinted; later it will be swollen and bruised for quite some time.
Nosebleeds and breathing irregularities may occur afterwards These are a standard risk of rhinoplasty, which your surgeon can explain more fully.
Pain relief may be needed for some weeks Rhinoplasty is serious surgery, and you may need pain relief for up to 8 weeks following the surgery.
Remember not to take over-the-counter aspirin products or ibuprofen - these can thin blood and worsen bleeding.
The vast majority of people getting rhinoplasty from a properly qualified and experienced surgeon are thrilled with the result...
especially if they've been fully prepared for the consequences!
