Between Benidorm and Javea on Spain's Costa Blanca lies the town of Moraira, an old fishing village which has steadily started to rely on tourist income to survive. It has done this by retaining much of its Spanish fishing village charm, and refusing to be taken over by British fish and chip shops. Holiday villas take the form of traditional Andalucian villas, often intermingled with stylish cafes and fish restaurants which huddle around the port.

Surrounded by the citrus groves and vineyards that carpet much of the landscapes of northern Costa Blanca, holiday farmhouses in Moraira have all the rustic charm and traditional authenticity that many people look for when it comes to choosing their ideal holiday accommodation. Villa rentals can also be found in peacefully secluded situations overlooking the mountainous countryside, although the more modern styles and enhanced leisure facilities of many holiday villas often make them more preferable for a family vacation. Accommodation in Costa Blanca North, however, doesn't stop at a villa, apartment rentals are another popular option, particulary with anyone hoping to make use of all the outstanding opportunities that exist in the region for a golfing holiday, apartments in the resort being favoured for their locations close to the superb clubs in the town and at neighbouring Javea, as well as the championship course at La Sella. Holiday rental accommodation in Moraira is never far from a stunning selection of blue flag beaches that is, for many, the best reason of all for choosing an apartment or villa rental and if you really want to experience the ultimate in relaxation and self -indulgence without the hassle of self catering, then you won't go far wrong with bed and breakfast.

Moraira's main beach, the picturesque Platja de l'Ampolla, is within easy walking distance of all the accommodation, just a few minutes past the daily fish market, which will supply all your seafood when staying in a self catering villa rental. A kilometre further on, the beach at Platja del Portet is the ideal spot to relax, as I am yet to find a more tranquil and peaceful spot to sun bathe. The golden sands are lapped gently by the turquoise waters, and are backed by quiet cafes from which to watch the world go by. There are also a great number of small, secluded and picturesque cove beaches within a few miles of a villa rental.

The clear Mediterranean waters which have created such a demand for property in Moraira are great for snorkelling and scuba diving, as well as Jet Ski excursions and swimming.

During July, the fiestas of Virgin del Carmen and the Virgin of the Unsheltered create organised and good humoured mayhem in the streets, making it a fantastic time to travel to Moraira.

Family holidays are filled with entertainment and day trips. There are golf courses, sports facilities and a go-karting track. Excursions to the Aqua Park in Benidorm, the mountain fortress of Guadalest and walking in Europe's largest palm forest are easily planned and executed from an apartment in Moraira.
