Don"t Spoil Your Dog
If you own a dog then chances are you spoil him from time to time.
We all do and it's because we love our four legged companions so much.
However as hard as it might be, you should stop spoiling your dog because it's counterproductive when it comes to training time.
Treats are supposed to be that extra special reward for being good and if given out at random times throughout the day, they lose that meaning.
Treats just become a part of the day and in your dog's eye, he will get that treat no matter if he listens to you or not.
So why even bother learning any new tricks if he still gets the reward? What you should do is get your dog to do a simple command before you give him a treat.
You can even use this time to teach him new tricks like sit or stay, if your dog doesn't know them already that is.
Your dog gets a treat and you get a chance to get your dog to learn something new at the same time! Another way that I used to spoil my dog, which I later found out was something many owners do when they shouldn't, is by giving in whenever my husky would beg for food when I'm eating at the table.
I just couldn't resist her sad puppy dog eyes and would give her something off my plate to munch on without realizing the negative effects of it.
The reason giving table scraps to your dog is a big no-no is because you are encouraging the begging even more.
My husky learned that if she begged at the table for long enough she would get the food that she wanted.
This made it even more difficult for me to get rid of the habit.
Imagine how embarrassing it is when you have guests over and your dog just keeps on begging them for food! If your dog begs for food while you are eating, you should send your dog to his or her spot and make her wait until you are finished.
Only when you are done with your dinner and are ready to leave the table, call your dog over and make him do a command before you give a the table scraps.
Not only will this help stop the begging but it's also a great way to teach your dog a new trick while at the same time spoiling him!
