Protein Coffee for Weight Loss

One of the challenges with losing weight or maintaining your weight is getting the right amount of calories without starving! I am also not a big meat eater so it's tough for me to get the recommended amount of protein each day.
In order to build muscle I need around 200 grams of protein per day.
I weigh about 215 pounds and you typically want about 1 gram of protein per pound to build muscle.
It is also a challenge to stay around 1500 calories and still get the right amount of protein, fruits, veggies, fiber, etc.
Ideally this should come from natural foods; however, I love the taste of chocolate so protein is a great substitute.
I am not a doctor or a nutritionist; however, as a fighter and martial artists I have played with my weight a lot over the years! So why protein coffee?? Three reasons, I enjoy iced coffee, I love the taste of chocolate, and last but not least, I find that this drink gives me energy and curbs my hunger.
The problem with this combination is that when you order it from a local coffee house it is usually loaded with sugar and calories.
I know, you can get the sugar free but either way it's not a healthy way to start your day.
On the other hand, 25 grams of protein from a natural food source with my coffee in the morning doesn't fit my ideal menu choice.
About 2 years ago I started playing with a bunch of different recipes to see what tastes the best and still follows a couple guidelines.
First, it has to taste good, I don't want to choke down whatever I am eating or drinking.
Second, it has to be healthy; including low sugar and low calories.
From this I came up with a lot of tasty and healthy smoothie type drinks, but today we are talking protein coffee.
Here is the secret recipe! I take 1.
5 teaspoons of instant coffee (more or less depending on how much caffeine you want) and put it in a Nalgene bottle.
I prefer to use something I can shake that won't leak, stirring leaves clumps of protein.
I add 8 ounces of water and 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder (any flavor works and 1 scoop equals about 25 grams of protein).
I shake this until all of the powder is gone and then simply add ice! It takes only a minute to make and it really tastes good! Now I have an iced breakfast protein smoothie with about 140 calories, 2 grams of sugar, and a whopping 25 grams of protein.
This is a great way to get your metabolism going in the morning and feed your muscle.
I have also found this to be a great afternoon snack if I am feeling a little bit tired.
I typically will only have one caffeinated drink each day versus being strung out on caffeine and pounding down the drinks.
