How to File for a Car Title in Virginia
- 1). Go to the Virgina DMV website and choose "Online Transactions" from the left-side navigation.
- 2). Scroll to the "Vehicle Services" section, and click the "Title Replacement" link.
- 3). Sign in to your DMV account. Enter your driver's license number, date of birth and PIN.
- 4). Change your address if you need to, but if you do, you cannot order your replacement title the same day. Confirm that your mailing address is correct.
- 5). Order the replacement title and pay directly from your checking account, with a major credit card, or with a debit card that displays the Visa or MasterCard logo. Your title should arrive in within 15 days.
- 1). Bring acceptable proof of identification, such as your driver's license or state-approved identification card, and your most current vehicle registration to a customer service center. A co-owner must go with you if one is listed on the title.
- 2). Fill out form "VSA 66" for replacement or substitute titles. You can also print this form from the Virginia DMV website to complete before you arrive at the customer service center.
- 3). Pay for your replacement title once the DMV customer service representative has processed your request. The fee as of 2010 is $5.
