How to Make Multicolored Vinyl Decals
- 1). Open a vector graphics program such as Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw. Vector programs are typically used when working with typography and logos for decals.
- 2). Go to "File" then "New" to create a new 8 1/2-by-11 document.
- 3). Select the "Pen," "Paintbrush" or "Pencil" tool to create the design. For text-only decals, select the "Text" tool, choose a font from the "Font" drop-down menu and click anywhere on the page to begin typing. Choose color swatches in the "Colors" palette to change the color of the stroke or fill when completing a design. Another option is to scan a multicolored image into the computer from a flatbed scanner, then open the file in the graphics program. Make sure the image is scanned at resolution of at least 300 ppi for the best print quality.
- 4). Insert the waterproof vinyl sticker paper, with the vinyl side up, into the paper tray of the ink-jet printer. Go to "File" then "Print" and hit "Print" to print the image. Let the decals dry for about 10 minutes.
- 5). Cut out the decal with a pair of scissors. Then peel the backing off of the sticker paper and stick the decal on the desired object.
