How to Locate the Carpathian Mountains
- 1). Consult your map or atlas and locate Slovakia, the country immediately north of Hungary and south of both the Czech Republic and Poland. It is bordered by Austria on the west and Ukraine on the east.
- 2). Look at the northern border of Slovakia; a mountain range separates it from Poland and from a portion of the Czech Republic. This range is the Carpathian Mountains, and the portion of the mountain range found in the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia is typically referred to as the "Western Carpathians."
- 3). Follow the Carpathian range east and south across Poland and into the Ukraine and Romania. The portion of the mountain range located in these countries is referred to as the "Eastern Carpathians."
- 4). Follow the arc of the Carpathian Mountains south across Romania and into Serbia. The portion of the mountain range found in southern Romania and Serbia is referred to as the "Southern Carpathians."
