    • 1). Volunteer at a salon or cosmetic clinic. Volunteer opportunities count toward clinical esthetician hours as long as the duties you are performing are consistent with your course of study. For example, volunteering at a cosmetic clinic where you tend to patients' skin after cosmetic surgery is relevant to your training.

    • 2). Apply for paid or unpaid internships at burn hospitals. There you will work in a clinical setting with health care professionals tending to burn victims who require special skin treatment.

    • 3). Work as an esthetician. You may not start out as a clinical esthetician until your training hours are complete, but you may still be able to provide facials and hair wax services to clients.

    • 4). Talk to your employers, even at internships and volunteer opportunities, about increasing your hours. Let them know how often you are willing to work. Obtain a copy of your work schedule to provide evidence to the training program that you are building up your clinical esthetician hours.

    • 5). Take as many esthetician courses in the training program as you can. Each course counts as its own number of credit hours. The more classes you take, the more hours you earn toward your degree or certificate.
