Message templates in Pegasus Mail are extremely powerful, but they are also a bit difficult to set up. But creating a simple sample template we'll find out it's not something you can't manage.
Pegasus Mail knows two types of message templates:
  • those used for new messages, which need to have the file extension ".PM5" and
  • the templates used for replies, which need to have the file extension ".PM6".

Create a Simple New Message Template in Pegasus Mail

Now, to create a simple new message template in Pegasus Mail:

  • Select Tools | Template Editor... from the menu.
  • Make sure A template used to create new messages from scratch is selected.
  • Click OK.
  • Click New....
  • Enter a name for the new message template.
  • Type the desired file name (it can be the same as the name for the message template).
  • Click OK.

Every line in a Pegasus Mail template takes exactly one command, and the first line must contain the "Title" command, which tells Pegasus Mail what the template is called. Pegasus Mail has already entered this line for you.
  • Go to the next line.
  • Type "set subject="Ti Ta Test".
    • The "set subject" command specifies the subject of the message.
  • Type "insert "Hi,~z~zhow are you?".
    • The "insert" command adds text to the message body.
    • Since every command in a Pegasus Mail template must be on a single line a special escape character is needed to insert a new line: "~z".
  • Click Save.

Now you can test the new template by creating a new message from it.
