Over Fifty? Fight That Fat!
If you're over fifty then you've probably gone through, or are well on your way to completing menopause.
Wow! What happened? Did the pounds accumulate and the fat settle? I was shocked at the new me! And it all happened so quickly...
There I was, gaining pounds and getting a paunch! The bad news is that it happens to everyone (men and women) because of the change in hormones as we get older.
It appears that it hits women more rapidly because, when you stop having your menstrual cycle, you go quickly into the "settling" mode.
Fat settles into your tummy area.
The good news is that there is something you can do about it.
How to fight it? The main cure is cut your calories now that your body is slowing down.
You just don't need the fuel that was required when you were younger.
It's not fun but it is fact.
Other cures? Yes, there are several: 1.
For a 130 pound woman who is post menopausal, her normal caloric requirement would be about 1500 calories per day.
I started exercising almost every day for 30 - 60 minutes.
This gave me a minimum of 200 (30 minutes of exercise) extra calories burned, allowing me to eat a bit more (that beloved glass of wine with dinner) without adding extra fat to my frame.
2.
Abdominal exercises can help tighten the abdominal area and firm up your tummy.
While most of us aren't striving for a 6 pack, virtually all of us can use some extra muscle in our bellies.
3.
Use good posture.
Standing up straight and pulling in your tummy will help firm it up AND make you look thinner, instantly.
I look at teenage girls and admire their smooth, pre-pregnancy stomachs, and contemplate all the factors that affect our bodies as we age.
We women who have gone through so many phases of life, have the opportunity to look good at our age! We don't need to compare! We need to accept and TAKE ACTION.
We need to be proud of our bodies and put effort into staying fit at all ages.
And it can be done! I highly recommend joining a group of women who share your interest and want to look good and stay healthy.
I find it makes all the difference in the world.
Over Fifty and Beautiful.
That's my motto...
