All Network Marketers Are Created Equal - Fact Or Fiction
"Anyone can do this!" is one of the lines heard at many recruiting meetings for network marketing companies. There are many lies that are passed down to lure new people in with the promises of easy riches to be earned and this one is half true but it is still dangerous because it leads you to believe you need no experience in MLM or sales and no budget for advertising.
They would have you believe you can jump in cold turkey, start working on your "warm list" of friends, family, and other personal contacts, and build your business to a 5 figure monthly income in a few months. The problem with this idea though is everyone is different and will not have the same values or motivations.
This line creates the impression that it will be easy or that it is a get rich quick business. This type of recruiting is damaging to the industry and contributes to the failure rates produced globally. It also puts you on a business plan that suggests you use a limited personal contact list as a prospect pool and that you can succeed with no marketing training.
It is really a recipe for failure and most people only realize it after investing a lot of time and money into their home based business. By then they are upset with their results, deeper into debt, and still have no idea why it isn't working compared to what they saw published in the company literature as the typical results.
Since everyone is unique and on a separate time-line and has different skills, drives, resources,etc... there really is no such thing as typical results when it comes to network marketing or MLM. As an example lets say John is Vice President of Marketing and Sales of a large corporation and has been earning 6 figures for years. He tries network marketing and since he has a nice budget and a lot of people in the same financial situation as he who respect him and have done business with him for years he quickly becomes a top earner.
Do you think someone would have the same chances to rise so quickly if they were a housewife? What about a college student, construction worker, secretary, school teacher, or bank teller? Everyone has different backgrounds and different skill levels so that means everyone has their own chances of succeeding.
If you had a 15 year veteran network marketer who was successful in other MLM businesses decide to change companies and he was able to bring his whole down-line team with him, how long would it take him to be one of the top earners?
A lot of recruiting meetings have speakers who did exactly that and they shared their great story with all of the new prospects. They have proof that it works and works quickly but they probably left out the part how the "friends" they were able to sign up have been part of their team for years.
This type of recruiting would lure in many unsuspecting people who are looking for a way to start a work at home business that they would be able to grow into a residual paycheck. Once reality sets in they will feel cheated or like a failure and quit. By that time though, their warm list would have been worked over with the help of their sponsor. There is a good chance they will have a few people signed up and maybe 1 or 2 of them would be sales oriented and make some money.
But whether you stay in or not, that would have given the sponsor a little commission and a chance to work through your list which may produce a winner. It is a numbers game they are playing and it is unscrupulous because many people will go further into debt than when they started and be left feeling like a failure when all they really needed was a plan for training on how to implement proper marketing techniques.
While it is true that anyone can be successful in this business, most people will not be willing to put in the work to get trained or to take the risks necessary to succeed much less be willing to change their mind set into the proper attitude needed to attract wealth. Just as in any business, there is not much chance of success without the proper training.
The winning method is to form a plan and get training to attract interested leads and learn how to turn the leads into recruits and then to teach your plan to your recruits. You also will need to quickly recognize when someone has the right attitude and mind set so you can disqualify those who do not.
If they say they only have a few hours per week and not much money for a budget you should tell them they are limiting their chances of success and would do better to free up more time and money if they are serious about building a business.
The secret to success is simple really, it starts with the understanding that it is not enough to wish for it. Riches never respond to wishes. The trick is to form specific plans that will lead to acquiring specific desires and to carry out your plan with constant persistence.
