How to Create Your Own Goalie Stick
- 1). Measure the length and width of the shaft of a goalie stick (using an existing stick as a reference) on the wooden block. On the average, you should construct a stick that is proportional to your height, but experienced players will recommend that you use the longest possible stick that you can manipulate comfortably, to take advantage of a more upright posture and a longer reach.
- 2). Carve the stick out of the wood using the electric saw, carefully following your measurements. Try not to carve too much all at once as you may accidentally cut into your measurements. It may take a while, but carve a bit at a time to ensure your shaft is cut out just right.
- 3). Smooth out the shaft with the sander. Hockey is played with gloves, but you don't always handle the stick with gloved hands outside the game. Sand the stick to avoid splinters and to make the stick more presentable.
- 4). Stick the old goalie stick blade to the shaft using wood glue. Wait until dry.
- 5). Drill holes into the area where the blade and the shaft connect., using the electric drill. Do not force the drill in, as you may crack the wood. Four holes should be enough.
- 6). Install the screws. Smaller screws are better, as they won't crack the wood.
- 7). Customize your hockey stick by wrapping it with electrical tape, for comfort and reinforcement purposes. Also, feel free to paint your stick to suit the colors of your favorite team, a local team of which you are a member, or simply your preferred color scheme or design.
