If you need to lose weight free for financial reasons or time constraints, there are many individuals who are unable to make it to the gym every day. If you would like to achieve an effective workout at home and lose weight, your first step will be to designate a marked workout space. This workout space should be free of distractions, like children or the television. To outfit your new workout space, invest in a workout mat and some free hand weights. The mat should be placed well away from walls and furniture. You may also wish to keep a stopwatch and a bottle of water nearby.

Just as you would with a workout in a gym, it is going to be necessary for you to begin your workout by stretching. Simple stretches and jogging in place will suffice. Once you have felt your heart rate begin to rise, it will be time for you to begin your workout. In a small, indoor space, achieving a full cardiovascular workout can be difficult; however, you can receive a cardio workout by performing short intervals of high activity exercise. For example, you can alternate two minutes of jumping jacks with two minutes of jogging in place to lose weight.

Your workout will need to exercise both the upper and lower portions of your body. To exercise your upper body, you should use your free weights to perform at least four sets of different exercises. Push ups can be ideal for working your arm muscles. Crunches or twists with free weights can work your abdominal muscles. To exercise the lower portions of your anatomy, consider during lunges and squats with the free weights. Online fitness websites and fitness magazines can be ideal sources for obtaining different exercises to perform. Do not forget to vary the exercises you perform from day to day.

After you have worked out your major muscle groups, it is time to begin your cool down. Take a moment to walk around your house two or three times and then return to your workout mat. Ideally, you should take between 10-15 minutes to thoroughly stretch all of your muscle groups. The same exercises that you used to warm up your muscles can be used to cool them down as well. Finally, do not be afraid to invest in some workout DVDs to provide variation to your workout routine.
