Why You Don"t Need a Lot of Twitter Followers

When people use Twitter, especially people who are new to the social networking site, they often think that number of followers has a large impact on their worth or experience within the site but this isn't true.
As someone who has used it for several months regularly with nearly 20,000 followers (currently), I have learned a lot about Twitter and what it means to have a lot of followers.
First, while I have a large number of followers, I do know that if I used certain tactics that I know exist, I could have quadrupled that number.
But then Twitter wouldn't have been so beneficial to me.
Secondly, I know that the more people you follow, the harder it is to keep up with their timelines.
Because of this, the more people who follow you, the harder it will become to follow everyone back.
If people follow you simply because they want you to follow them back, it's a selfish motive and this will almost never benefit you on the site.
Followers who are really interested in you and what you do are what you want.
This means you don't need large numbers as long as the numbers you have are serving the purpose you want from them.
Remember that Twitter should be about the experience you get from it, not about the number of followers you get.
You don't need to have a big number.
If you seek true followers that are not just in it for the personal gain of you following them back, you will have a better experience with Twitter and you will discover in time that the followers come naturally.
In a few months of regular use, you will start to see your numbers climb as well.
