History of the John Deere 40 Series Tractor
- John Deere launched the 40 Series in 1953 to replace the Model M. It was the first model in company history to have an authentic three-point hitch. This new hitch design, already featured on Ford tractors since 1938, became the standard on all John Deere tractors.
- In addition to the three-point hitch, the 40 Series boasted increased engine rpms, boosting the engine power by 15 percent from the Model M. This tractor also left behind the letter series naming system in favor of a new number series.
- The launch of the 40 Series and the improved engine that accompanied it paved the way for John Deere models developed in the 1950s. The 40 Series helped the company remain competitive in the industry.
