Important Tips for Shed Foundation
The foundation of a shed is very important because it holds the shed up. Every kind of shed except the wooden ones needs a strong foundation. Even a wooden one needs to be kept above ground at all times to prevent the wood from rotting. Concrete and metal sheds need very strong foundations so that they are strong and stay up at all times without falling down. All places where the weather is wet and rainy should have extra strong foundations for the sheds.
The place where the shed needs to be built has to have the ground ready for the foundation. The area should be demarcated initially and the area demarcated should be larger than the actual area needed for the shed.
Shovels or hoes can be used to level the ground. The area that has been set apart should be made to be devoid of grass and other debris. This is to make the place ready for the foundation. A six inch excavation is needed as a base to start the foundation. The area should be clean and all unwanted roots and rocks need to be removed. The carpenter's level should be used to check if the ground is level. This level has a bubble in it, which will be in the center if the ground is level.
The level ground in the excavated area should have gravel put into it. Sand can be added to the gravel to make the holes get filled up, but only after the gravel are tamped. Then, the surface is again leveled to prevent the building from leaning. Plastic sheet can be kept over this to prevent moisture from entering this, but the area should be leveled again to make it ready for the concrete.
Plywood boards can be used to form the concrete. Mixing the concrete in a barrow would be enough, before it is poured into the excavated area. The concrete is made to be level by using a board on it. Then the concrete is left to set for a week, hosing the concrete each day will increase the life of the foundation
The soil and the weather are factors to be considered when you decide on what foundation is needed. The materials and the method of making the foundation should be right for making the foundation to last long. Gravel foundation and concrete blocks usage are other options available.
