The Songwriters Hall Of Fame exists to recognize the key talents that too often go unrecognized by pop music fans. However, pop music as we know it would be non-existent without hundreds of talented songwriters. Each year the Songwriters Hall Of Fame inducts new members recognized for their career contributions. On June 9, 2005, the following new members were inducted. Along with each songwriter is a list of some of their key hit songs.

In addition, Smokey Robinson, a previous inductee, received the Johnny Mercer award, Alicia Keys received the Starlight Award, an award for young, promising songwriters, and Les Paul received the Lifetime Achievement award.
