The Restaurant
Seasons 52 is a fresh grill and wine bar restaurant that recently opened its first Texas location in The Shops at Legacy on the Plano/Frisco border. Nothing on the menu is more than 475 calories, from its signature flatbreads and appetizers, to all entrées and its mini indulgence desserts. The restaurant also features 63 wines available by the glass.
The restaurant's sophisticated-yet-casual main dining room is dark and elegant with a splash of color coming from some artistic vases.
Beside the entry's fireplace is a room with the exclusive chef's table -- a beautiful stainless steel top with real spices under glass in the middle of the table. Two private dining rooms are located in the back of the restaurant and may be reserved for meetings and private parties.
The name Seasons 52 refers to the fact that every week of the year the restaurant menu strives to feature the freshest ingredients at their peak of ripeness and maximum flavor profile. By celebrating the ever-changing harvest of each season, guests are sure to encounter a unique and rich dining experience.
The Menu
The menu is divided into flatbreads, appetizers, small salads, entrée salads, fish and seafood, poultry and meat, desserts, and wines.
I attended a media preview dinner hosted by Stephen Judge, the company's president and former MGM Grand executive; chef and co-founder Cliff Pleau; and George Miliotes, Master Sommelier.
Two different flatbreads were served with champagne as we toured the restaurant. I loved both -- although my favorite flatbread was the one topped with spicy chipotle shrimp.
We were seated and served the appetizer, a spicy guacamole with lump crabmeat. It was more flavorful than any guacamole I've ever sampled and the crab was perfectly cooked.
Next we were served a mini sampling of the Cedar Plank Roasted Salmon and Caramelized Sea Scallops. I've never been a big fan of salmon but Seasons 52 made a believer out of me. Both were seasoned and cooked to perfection. I will order the scallops on my next visit! The salad course was uniquely plated in a glass tower and then the tower was removed. The organic greens were dressed with truffle oil and Portobello mushrooms. Mr. Judge commented on the importance of serving organic greens and I agree. I was impressed with the Texas Goat Cheese Ravioli -- but I was even more impressed when the executive chef told us his secrets for preparing it. Our final entrée was grilled lamb and quail. It was a delightful and exotic change of pace because I would typically order a steak.
Wines and Dessert
Mr. Miliotes, a Master Sommelier, personally visits wineries around the world and helps the winemaker blend wines to perfectly complement the Seasons 52 menu. They offer a Wine Spectator award-winning international wine list with more than 100 selections. Similar to the menu, the wine list also evolves with each season to bring the best offerings from around the globe. The international wine list is renowned for its diversity of 26 different varietal selections and includes many well known labels, as well as outstanding wines from lesser known growing regions that offer exceptional value. I thought the wines chosen for our preview dinner were perfectly paired with the foods we sampled. Some of the wines we tasted are even available at local beverage markets and I can't wait to impress my friends with my new favorites.
Mini Indulgences are petite servings of nine classic desserts ranging from Key Lime Pie and Old Fashioned Carrot Cake, to Rocky Road and Pecan Pie. I highly recommend the Pecan Pie. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and the pecans are grown in Texas. I also tasted my husband’s Pumpkin Pie Mini with Double Gingersnap Crust – another fall favorite. My only complaint was that my husband wouldn't share more of his pumpkin pie with me.
I greatly enjoyed my preview dinner at Seasons 52. There are several things I loved about it: I loved that there's nothing over 475 calories. I love that fresh, local produce is used -- and organic whenever possible. I love the variety of wines available by the glass. It's a perfect date night restaurant.
