At long last, the G2 is here! Remember the first Android, the G1? That phone was Google's attempt at killing the iPhone - and while the geeks snatched it up, it wasn't much of a challenge to the iPhone.
Then the Android OS started to be run by other mobile phone companies, and soon enough it became a substantial threat to the iPhone's dominion! All that to say, up until now, the G1 users had been getting a little bored with their old device, seeing all the latest-greatest like the Nexus 1, Motorola Droid and Samsung Fascinate.
Now Google is back, this time with the G1's big brother.
The G2 by HTC runs the latest version of Android, the 2.
2 or "Froyo".
This, of course, means Flash, Auto-updating apps, and the ability to store applications on the SD card.
It features an 800 megahertz Qualcomm processor - not quite the 1GHz Snapdragon that the Droid 2 boasts, but quite respectable for a phone this size.
With up to 590 minutes talk time, this phone is made to last a long time.
Standby? Up to 430 HOURS! I'm amazed.
So how big is the screen? This stunning WVGA 480x800 res screen is 3.
7 inches diagonally - absolutely awesome! Of course, this phone has the typical GPS that Androids tend to sport, as well as a beautiful 5 megapixel camera with an LED flash and auto-focus.
So what about that awesome keyboard? Well, with z-hinges it may seem weird at first, but to me it felt like one of the more satisfying clicks phones have had in years.
Of course, with HTC's htc_ime onscreen keyboard, who would use the physical keyboard anyway? So now all your Nexus 1 friends will be telling you, "The N1 is so much better than your G2!" Well, that's not true.
The G2 has been scoring higher linpack and download speeds than the Nexus 1, not to mention that it's on HDSPA.
