Paintball is a physically challenging sport and has become the best past time of lots of youth, grown men and women. Once you have past the "playing it for fun" stage and become a more frequent player I would suggest after you have purchased your own safety gear that you take some time choosing a paintball gun that will make you have an even more enjoyable time.

As you get started generally you won't know what to look for in a gun but that it can shoot straight and fast. There is so much out there to know, which one you will get the most out of, take time you don't have to rush into this.
Word of mouth they say is the best form of marketing speak to other players, who take the game seriously, and find out how they find there guns and what "make and model" they have and if they like there gun or would they rather go find another "make or model". Veteran players can offer some sound advice and most of them love to talk about paintball guns any chance they can get.
Paintball guns can be expensive but hey if you really enjoy playing it is important to get what you want, or maybe work up to the gun you want over time.

Some of the guns range in there thousands of $ you need to start with a price range that you want to spend. I would not recommend taking out a loan to buy a gun unless you loan it form you parents and there might be a chance that they will give it to you. Who know!

You need to consider your style of play. That is when you start playing it might be out in the fields and you have lots of time so it is a slow game but as time goes on you might change to a more competitive style which can get faster and the challenge is much greater. Consider getting a gun design for speed and performance.

Surf the web you will find lots of advice on the different makes and models. Read reviews from other people.

Of course the only way to get the "feel" of the gun is to test it, ask if you can demo the gun before you buy some place do let you do that. Or try your friends guns, most friends will let you try it out for a short time but don't push your luck.
You can even try renting a gun ask them which models they have there is a chance that they wont only have one model. But rentals typically include some of the better beginner and even novice models.
Paintball has been designed for fun if you look back to the old days the cowboy movies we use to get our guns out after watching westerns and try shooting one another.
Now we have taken this to another level. Yes it can and will hurt but you won't die. Whether you purchase, rent or borrow your gun must be comfortable. You need to have a basic understanding of a gun and how it works to get the most out of the game
