  Hemorrhoids are basically varicose veins in your rectum and they can hurt like the dickens.

  They can be itchy and swollen and make sitting difficult.

  They will often cause additional pain during bowel movements if they are not treated, and it is a good idea to take a stool softener if you have a particularly troublesome hemorrhoid.
