How Does a Bejeweler Stone Styler Work?
- The Bejeweler Stone Styler handset is an electrical appliance for fabric crafting and is used in the process of setting Swarovski heat-glue crystals to fabric. The magic behind the Bejeweler handset is a heating rod that transfers 4.8 watts of electrical energy to the exposed heat tip on which a crystal setting is affixed. The internal components of the heating rod are encapsulated in the handle, which is made of a heat-resistant material. Each Bejeweler has interchangeable metal tips to fit a range of crystal and rhinestone sizes available from Swarovski.
- Swarovski, a prominent crystal company makes a range of crystal and rhinestone beads for crafting in various sizes, shapes and colors. Hotfix beads are shaped with a faceted exposure and a flat back, which is coated in a thin layer of heat-activated setting glue. In between the stone and glue is a thin piece of metal, which is used as a heat conductor in activating the glue. Natural and synthetic crystals and rhinestones have no change to their molecular structure when exposed to the low-level heat of the Bejeweler, and instead act as a conductor through which the heat passes on its way to the glue.
- As the heat passes through the Hotfix crystal, the flat glue backing melts into a liquid. When placed on fabric, the melted glue is absorbed. Removing the stone styler from the bead will leave the Hotfix crystal in place, and once removed from heat, the crystal will slowly cool along with the glue backing, leaving the Hotfix bead securely attached to the fabric.
