    • The Mazda Tribute was first manufactured for the 2001 model year. This compact utility vehicle (CUV) was created to fill the hole left in the lineup by the Navajo, which was discontinued in 1994. The Mazda Tribute is the twin to the Ford Escape. Because of a joint development project between Mazda and Ford, both vehicles were built on the same platform. While they shared the same power train, the Mazda sports different body panels and interior trim.

    Optional Internal Features

    • The 2006 Tribute GX-I4 had a bevy of internal optional features. Buyers had a few entertainment choices, from a satellite radio to a DVD system to a CD-changer audio system. For "old-school" tape owners, a cassette audio system could be installed. For those who preferred creature comforts, optional leather seating and leather steering-wheel trim were available. Also, an auto-dim rearview mirror and an illuminated vanity mirror were offered. Other optional features were a power driver's seat and an overhead console with storage.

    Exterior Options

    • The 2006 GX-I4 could have been outfitted with an optional rear spoiler. To further enhance its image, running boards and tube-type side steps were also obtainable options. To protect this CUV, an optional anti-theft alarm system, wheel locks and a universal remote transmitter were offered.

    Standard Features

    • The 2006 Tribute GX-I4 had the following features as standard: 16-inch alloy wheels, disc/drum ABS brakes, variable intermittent front wipers, two-speed rear washer-wiper, heated power mirrors, keyless entry, power windows, tilt steering, air conditioning and split 60/40 folding rear seat.

    Mechanical and Mileage

    • The GX-I4 designation signifies that this model comes with an inline four-cylinder engine. This 2.3-liter motor has a double overhead camshaft and 16 valves. It produces 153 horsepower at 5,800 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 152 foot-pounds of torque at 4,250 rpm. The 2006 GX-I4 came standard with a manual five-speed transmission, but an elective four-speed automatic transmission was available. Lastly, cruise control could have been added to the GX-I4.
