Quiznos at Its Best - Living in a Throw-Away Society

We donate food to food banks on Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving and we often provide money to the Salvation Army, but why then is something so simple as giving what will just be tossed so hard to do? I believe it is for these reasons.
Firstly, we as people don't have much control over what fast food franchises put in their trash.
Secondly, because we are such a litigious society that we have made it impossible to "do good" without potential repercussions by the Food & Drug Administration and Federal Regulatory Agencies.
What would happen if we donated food to the homeless and someone claimed that they contracted e-coli or worse?! Well folks, this is where we are at.
With the amount of wasted food (being untouched and often nutritious food at that) we Americans could feed a small Country on a daily basis! Sad, but true.
This is only the un-purchased food I'm speaking of.
I wanted to share this thought as my husband and I quickly purchased a bite at the airport Quiznos shop.
He wasn't happy with the looks of the Angus steak salad that they had served him, so he swapped it for a sub sandwich instead.
I was shocked to see that it didn't get put anywhere else but the garbage pail of course! Heaven forbid one of the employees take advantage of this uneaten gift and be fired for theft! With the amount of people in need of food on a daily basis in America alone, why can't we take these leftover edibles and have a volunteer group sign a liability form before distributing to the homeless and others in need? I don't have all the answers but thought this was important enough to at least share with all of you.
