The Weaknesses of the 1979 Bronco

    Too Unique

    • One of the major potential weaknesses of a 1979 Ford Bronco is that it is almost too unique. Both the 1978 and 1979 models, which were based on the same design, were only produced for two years from unique designs that differ greatly from the Broncos produced both before and after. Because of this, finding parts can be very difficult as they are scarce and highly sought after by individuals who continue to use their 1979 Bronco. Even when parts can be found, they tend to be more expensive because of the demand and limited supply.

    Customization

    • A second issue that often comes up with this model is how often original owners customize their vehicle. The 1979 Bronco lent itself to being easy to customize for more power or off-road ability by individuals who had even basic mechanical knowledge. This is not an issue for the people who originally wanted to customize the vehicle, but it is a problem for anyone who buys that customized vehicle and must figure out how to get spare parts when something goes wrong. Many of the most common changes also hurt the 1979 Bronco's already poor gas mileage.

    Gas Mileage

    • Perhaps the biggest weakness of all of the 1979 Ford Bronco would be the absolutely terrible gas mileage. While there are no official numbers given on what the gas mileage is for the average '79 Bronco, common estimates range from as low as 10 miles per gallon for city driving to 14 miles per gallon for highway driving.
