    • 1). Determine whether you are running a 32- or 64-bit version of Windows. This number refers to the type of central processing unit you have installed. If you are unsure of your version, open the Start menu. Click "Computer." Click the "System Properties" button at the top of the screen. Find the "System" section. Your Windows version appears under "System type."

    • 2). Visit the Internet Explorer website. Select your version of Windows from the drop-down menu. Click the blue "Download now" button. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, the installation file may take a few minutes to download.

    • 3). Close your browser. Launch the Internet Explorer installation file and run the installer. You may need to restart your computer once installation is complete.

    • 4). Launch Internet Explorer. When prompted, decide whether or not you would like to set Internet Explorer as your default browser. You can also import your bookmarks from an existing browser installation at this time if you were not previously using IE as your default browser.
