    Avoiding Bad Weather Back Home

    • The peak season in the Bahamas begins in late December and lasts through late April. This is typically the busiest time of year as many tourists, especially those from the Midwest, Northeast and United Kingdom, are experiencing bad weather back home. Instead of dealing with the cold, gray and oftentimes rainy days, many plan a sunny, island getaway. Travel during this four-month period is also motivated by ample vacation time for many, who take advantage of holiday time off for Christmas and spring break.

    Avoiding the Crowds

    • Those who want to experience optimum weather without the huge crowds will find May to be the best month to visit the Bahamas. By now, the throngs of tourists have died down, but the weather remains hot and summer-like in the Caribbean. Prices may also have dropped along with the crowds, allowing springtime travelers to take advantage of the lower occupancy rates as establishments compete for tourists.

    Avoiding the Hurricanes

    • Hurricane season in the Bahamas officially runs from June 1 through Nov. 30, and is characterized by mudslides, high winds and floods. Many tourists have found that traveling to this region in June is relatively safe. Others wait for the season to pass and travel instead in early December, right after hurricane season has ended but before the holiday rush.
According to StormCarib.com, which has tracked every hurricane that Nassau and Paradise Island has experienced from 1851 to 2008, almost all of the hurricanes occurred between August and November. Only two occurred during July; and none in June.
