Keeping Your Firearms Safe

The most important element in caring for your firearm is safety. This involves not only unloading your firearm after every single use but also proper storage techniques. The gun should be unloaded and kept in a gun safe. The guns should have a lock around the trigger as well. The lock will not allow the trigger to be pulled. Therefore, the gun can not be fired. The keys should be kept away from children as well. This storage is important not only for safety but also for the gun to stay dry. The gun can rust and become unsafe if it is not properly stored. When the gun is being transported it should be in a case unloaded (unless your state allows otherwise). Always have the guns locked away.

Gun Cleaning is also extremely important in the care and maintenance of your firearm. The gun cleaning is not just keeping dirt, mud, and other objects out of your firearm. Keeping the barrel and chamber of your firearm clean is vital to your safety. It will become dangerous if the gun is not properly cleaned on a regular basis. The gun will not only be dangerous to you but will not shoot as accurately as you would like, making hunting or just shooting more inaccurate. Cleaning your gun involves taking some time to actually clear the gunpowder out of the barrel. You must run a cleaning rod through the barrel. Then run the cleaning rod through with a rag on it a few times. Then you should run a new rag with some cleaner on it a few times. Next, put a rag with some lubricant on it and put it on the rod then run it through. Then finally, take a rag and run it through to wipe off the extra lubricant. As far as the outside of the barrel and the gun stock you should use a new rag and put some lubricant on it and wipe the outside off. Then wipe off the excess lubricant on it. Keeping the parts oiled and working as well as the outside rust free is very important to making sure that your firearm lasts a long time. Part of cleaning is making sure that your gun is clean of water after taking it out in the rain. You would be surprised at how fast a firearm can rust and become dangerous if it is not properly taken care of.
