How to Respond After an Interview
- 1). Compose a thank you letter or email addressed to the individual you met with. If you interviewed with multiple managers, address the thank you to the person who called you in for the interview. If you plan to mail the letter, write it in the same format as the initial cover letter you used to apply for the position.
- 2). Express your gratefulness for the opportunity to come in and speak with the interviewer. Quote the exact date and time to help the interviewer recall your meeting.
- 3). List your two or three best traits briefly, such as your experience, education or special skills that you feel make you best qualified for the position.
- 4). Highlight a discussion you had during the interview that seemed to grab the interest of the interviewer. For instance, if you discussed a successful special project you completed while in your senior year in college, bring up that conversation. Remind him of the positive aspects of the project.
- 5). Provide any information that you were not able to give the interviewer in your meeting. For instance, if you needed to get permission from someone for a referral, provide his name and address in the letter. You could also simply enclose a referral letter from the person.
- 6). Quote your contact information, including email and phone number, at the end of the letter. Clarify that you're looking forward to coming in for a second round of interviews (if necessary) or express that you look forward to hearing from the hiring manager soon.
