    Learn the Neighborhoods

    • Before moving to Los Angeles, researching the neighborhoods of the city is a good idea. Just a few blocks can be the difference between a safe and an unsafe area. Some of the major areas of the city are Hollywood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and the San Fernando Valley. Hollywood is the hub of Los Angeles with some of the major movie studios and plenty of nightlife. Santa Monica is a beach community with plenty of shopping and restaurants. Beverly Hills, situated between West Hollywood and Century City, is known for its celebrities and expensive lifestyle. The San Fernando Valley is the hottest part of Los Angeles, filled with culture and entertainment. Each part of the city has something interesting to offer; before moving, figure out what part of the city fits your budget and suits your interests.

    Traffic

    • Los Angeles is notorious for its traffic. Although the freeway system is well-designed, the traffic is constant. Morning rush hour typically starts around 6 a.m. and lasts until 9 a.m. Evening rush hour starts at about 3 p.m. and lasts until 7 or 8 p.m. You may encounter busy traffic on a daily basis, depending on where you drive. The public transportation system has improved over the last few years, and people are opting to use it instead of driving. If you plan to move to the city with your car, register it within 30 days or you'll be subject to fines.

    Job search

    • Job hunting in Los Angeles is very competitive. Recently, unemployment has increased in the city. With so many people looking to break into the entertainment industry, many people are in search of a "day job." Even jobs like servers, bartenders, telemarketers and assistants have hundreds of applicants and require a solid resume. Have enough money to sustain you while you look for a job, in the event it doesn't happen quickly. Update your resume with solid skills and experience.

    Network

    • No matter what you plan to do for work when you move to Los Angeles, one of the best things you can do is network. There are networking events in Los Angeles which you can attend that promote business and social networking. Many jobs and opportunities come from knowing people who are already working in the business. The more people you network with, the better your chances of landing a position in your chosen industry.
