How to Find a Dealer's Invoice on a New Car
- 1). Write down the make, model and features of the car for which you want the dealer invoice.
- 2). Visit any authoritative automotive website that allows you to research the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of cars. Two of the best are Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book. Do a search for your vehicle and use the pull-down menus or selection boxes to choose your feature set. Every feature has a cost, so be thorough.
- 3). Look up the holdback for your vehicle. These are a type of rebate paid to the dealer. Manufacturers hike up the cost of the vehicle to create indirect profit advantages for the dealer. They then reimburse the dealer for the extra money paid. Subtract the holdback from the invoice price to get an accurate picture of the value of the vehicle.
- 4). Print out both your invoice price results and your holdback results and bring them to the dealer with you.
- 5). Ask the dealer for the dealer invoice, and compare this to yours. Discrepancies may be present because your websites may not have been notified of changes to the vehicle value, but the figures should be very close.
