    Weather

    • Cold or dry air or poor air quality, such as high ozone levels, may irritate the air passages and cause an asthma attack.

    Allergens

    • According to the Mayo Clinic, an asthma attack may be caused by allergens, including pollen, dust, pet dander or mold spores.

    Exercise

    • Exercise, whether light or strenuous, may cause an asthma attack depending on the particular individual and other circumstances, such as weather.

    Smoke

    • Smoke either from smoking cigarettes, cigars, pipes and other tobacco products or being around secondhand smoke can trigger an asthma attack.

    Infections

    • Infections, such as colds, influenza, bronchitis and pneumonia, temporarily weaken the lungs, and can cause an asthma attack.

    Sinusitis

    • Sinusitis is a medical term for chronic inflammation and infection of the sinuses and can trigger an asthma attack.

    Acid reflux

    • Acid reflux can irritate the throat and breathing tubes and cause an asthma attack, according to the Mayo Clinic.
