How to Teach the Christian Bible to Young Children
- 1). Obtain an age appropriate children's Bible for the child. Bibles from companies such as Zonderkidz provide children with easy to understand versions of the stories and plenty of colorful pictures.
- 2). Read the Bible to your child. Set aside a specific time each day where the family can sit together and learn about God from the Bible. Be sure that this time is separated from an actual story time, to ensure that your children understand the difference between fact and fiction.
Read and study the Bible yourself. When your child sees that Bible reading is a daily activity for you as an adult, it plants the idea that Bible reading is what grown-ups do. - 3). Play Bible song CD's at home and in the car. These CD's put important scriptures to music and make it easy for even toddler's to remember God's word. Such CD's are often available in Vacation Bible School curriculum released each year by major publishers such as Group Publishing or Cokesbury/Abington Press.
- 4). Watch Bible-based DVD's with your children. Companies such as Big Idea Productions create lines of videos that teach Bible stories in an entertaining and easy to understand way that will make both children and parents laugh.
- 5). Discuss the Bible DVD's with your children after watching them. Many companies will even provide devotionals to help with the discussion.
- 6). Purchase a bible verse flip calender and place it on the kitchen table. Read the daily verse at every meal during the day and discuss it with your children. Challenge older kids to memorize the verse and help younger children understand what each verse means. Offer a special dessert at dinner to the kids who can recite the daily verse.
