How to Kill Vundo
- 1). Run your anti-virus software. If the software does not pick up on the Trojan, then download another application and run it. Hijack This is a thorough anti-virus application that is recommended for finding this Trojan.
- 2). Download Vundo Fix. This can be found through a Web search.
- 3). Run Vundo Fix in safe mode. To run your computer in safe mode, turn the computer off manually using the power button. Wait 10 to 20 seconds and then push the button again. Watch the screen for a prompt to run your operating system in safe-mode. Use the keyboard directional buttons to highlight safe-mode, and hit "Enter." Once your computer finishes booting in safe mode, find Vundo Fix and double click the icon, or click on the program in your programs list.
- 4). Reboot your computer and run your anti-virus software, such as Hijack This, again. If no alerts come up, then you have successfully removed the virus. If there are still traces of the virus, then proceed to the next step.
- 5). Perform a registry cleaning to remove any remaining traces of the trojan. The registry is a database of all of the hardware and software on your computer. You can download free registry cleaners online, and once they are downloaded, open the program and click "Run" to begin cleaning your registry.
- 6). Run your anti-virus software, such as Hijack This, again. There should be no traces of the trojan left on your system now.
