How to Make Fake Scars

    Burn and Scraped Scab Scars

    • 1). Clean the area of the skin where the scar will be made with alcohol. A cleaner area allows the fake scar to adhere to the skin better.

    • 2). Put a layer of rubber cement on to the scar area of the skin and let it dry. Smear it until it's paper thin. Put another layer of rubber cement on top of it. This is your scar base. Make it as large as you want the scar to be.

    • 3). Start scraping the rubber cement with a tooth pick or dental floss holder. Make it jagged so that it looks like a healed scab. Keep alternating between adding layers of cement and scraping away at it until the desired depth is achieved. This is supposed to be a healed wound, not fresh, so it needs to be as close to the skin as possible.

    • 4). Color the scar with fine tipped markers. If you want a long-lasting scar, Sharpie Ultra Fine Point Permanent Markers work well. If you want a scar that lasts only a few hours, go with water-based markers, like Crayola or Elmer's. Use various shades of red, such as red, maroon, pink and purple. The middle should be darker red near the inside edges of the scar with slightly ligther shades of red towards the center.

    • 5). Color the outside of the scar with fine tipped markers. Use colors that match your skin tone, so that the outer edges of the scar blend into the skin color. Optionally, make-up may be used for better blending. Add some bruising and patches of dark discoloration using shades of purple, blue and possibly some black. Do not overdo it. If a fresher-looking scar is wanted, use more bruising.

Pat the scar with clear make-up powder to dull the shine of the markers, rubber cement and make-up. This is optional but is more necessary for close-up viewing or on video.

    Cut and Laceration Scars

    • 1). Clean the area of the skin where the scar will be made with alcohol.

    • 2). Chew a few pieces of bubble gum until most of the sugar is dissolved. Two or three pieces will go a long way, depending on how long the scar needs to be. It should be soft and stretchy.

    • 3). Take the chewed gum and shape it into a long, thin eliptical strip (wider in middle, tapered at ends) and flatten the outside edges slightly. Make it slightly wavy to make it appear realistic. It is a good idea to use a flat, non-stick surface, such as a glass sink top or on a table with a sheet of wax paper on top. Let it dry a short while until the gum is firm yet pliable.

    • 4). Place the bubble gum scar on the skin and press down firmly so that it adheres well to the skin. Smooth the outside edges until they are flush with the skin.

    • 5). Color the scar with skin-toned make-up. The outside edges should match the skin and get lighter and lighter as you reach the top crest of the scar. If a fresher-looking scar is wanted, add bruising with some black, blue and purple make-up around the edges of the scar.
