Instructions

1

Choose a location. Ideally, choose a location in a high traffic area, that has a window facing the traffic. Displaying decorative and brand name perfume bottles in the window will provide free advertising of your products. Check with the local government to see that the location is zoned for retail. Obtain a business license and tax identification number through the city's business office, usually located in city hall.
2

Choose a shop style. You can go with all organically made perfumes of natural ingredients or a commercially developed perfume line. If you decide to carry both types, divide your store into two sections so customers can find what they are looking for more easily.
3

Develop relationships with perfume vendors and set up regular deliveries. Perfumes are not like other retail products that you can judge by looking at a photograph. Your vendors should offer to come to your shop regularly with new perfume samples for you to try. Develop relationships with gift basket supply vendors and perfume bottle vendors. You can also find bottles online at sites including specialtybottles.com.
4

Consider setting up a perfume buffet in which customers create their own scents from natural ingredients you have at the buffet. Provide little cards stamped with your logo and shop information that the customers can write their invented recipes on to remember for the next time.
5

Design several perfume gift baskets for display in the shop. Advertise your gift baskets and custom baskets in which the customer chooses the scent and you put together an attractively decorated basket with a bottle of perfume in it and several other perfume-related gifts.
