How to Increase the Fan Speed on an Xbox 360
- 1). Remove all of the cables from the Xbox 360. Put the bath towel down on a table. Put the Xbox 360 down on the table with the hard drive compartment facing up.
- 2). Grab the left upper corner of the faceplate with the left hand (reverse this for "lefties"). Put two fingers of your right hand into the USB door at the lower right corner of the faceplate. Pull up on the USB door while squeezing down on the faceplate. Pull the faceplate off the Xbox 360.
- 3). Put the Xbox 360 down on the bath towel horizontally with the ventilation grills on each side and the power button facing you. Insert the flat-edged screwdriver to one of the holes in the top of the ventilation grill on the right side of the Xbox 360. Wiggle the tip of the flat-edged screwdriver to loosen the four clips inside of the ventilation grill at the top.
- 4). Press the power button on the front of the Xbox 360. Repeat the procedure with the flat-edged screwdriver on the ventilation grill on the left side.
- 5). Turn the Xbox 360 face down on the bath towel. Lift up on the bottom shelf. Remove the 14 screws revealed using the Torx screwdriver. Turn the Xbox 360 back face up on the bath towel.
- 6). Lift up on both sides of the outer case of the Xbox 360 with your hands. Remove the outer case from the Xbox 360.
- 7). Remove the screws from the back plate using the Torx screwdriver. Pull the back plate off the Xbox 360.
- 8). Pull the plastic inserts that are on the left and right sides off the Xbox 360.
- 9). Remove the screws from around the DVD drive inside of the Xbox 360 using the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

Lift up on the DVD drive with your fingers. Pull the two cables out of the back of the DVD drive with your fingers. - 1). Measure 10 inches of electric wire with the ruler. Cut the 10-inch segment with the wire cutters. Strip a half inch of insulation off each end of the electric wire using the ruler and the wire strippers. Make another strip of electric wire in an identical fashion to the first.
- 2). Solder one end of one of the electric wires to one of the two contacts on the toggle switch. Solder one end of the other electric wire to the other contact on the toggle switch. Let the solder cool for a minute.
- 3). Cut the black and blue wires going from the fan assembly that are at the left rear edge of the Xbox 360 with the wire cutters.
- 4). Strip a half inch of insulation off the ends of the black and blue wires with the wire strippers. Wrap the ends of the black and blue wires around each other. Wrap the end of one of the two wires attached to the toggle switch around the intertwined ends of the black and blue wires. Apply a drop of solder with the soldering iron to the intertwined ends of the wires. Let the solder cool for a minute.
- 5). Cut the brown and red wires going from the motherboard to the fan assembly with the wire cutters. The wires are at the right rear edge of the fan assembly.
- 6). Strip a half inch of insulation off the ends of the brown and red wires with the wire strippers. Wrap the ends of the brown and red wires around each other. Wrap the end of the other wire attached to the toggle switch around the intertwined ends of the brown and red wires. Apply a drop of solder with the soldering iron to the intertwined ends of the wires. Let the solder cool for a minute.
- 7). Drill a small hole in the side of the Xbox 360 with the portable drill.
- 8). Push the toggle switch through the hole and out of the Xbox 360. Apply bonding glue to the back end of the toggle switch. Push the back end of the toggle switch against the hole so that it adheres to the Xbox 360. Let the bonding glue dry for a day.
- 9). Reattach the cables to the DVD drive. Place the DVD drive back into position in the Xbox 360. Reattach the screws to the DVD drive. Reverse the disassembly process to reassemble the Xbox 360. Reattach the cables to the Xbox 360.
