How to Tighten a Chain on a Raptor 700
- 1). Move the ATV to a flat surface such as a garage or a driveway.
- 2). Adjust the position of the ATV by moving it forward and backward to find where the drive chain is the tightest.
- 3). Measure the drive chain slack using the tape measure. Place the tape measure against the chain at the middle point. Gently press down on the chain at the same point until it stops, then push the chain upward until it again stops. Measure the distance that the chain traveled from bottom point to top point, which is the slack. If the slack is greater than 0.98 to 1.38 of an inch you will need to tighten the chain.
- 1). Loosen the pinch bolts on the rear axle with the socket wrench.
- 2). Insert the 10cm rod into a hole in the tensioner of the drive chain. Shift the transmission to the "N" or "Neutral" position.
- 3). Move the ATV forward to tighten the drive chain. Move the ATV backward to loosen the drive chain.
- 4). Remove the 10cm rod and then tighten the pinch bolts with the torque wrench. Torque the bolts to 15.2 ft lbs.
