    • 1). Open a web browser and type "http://dlinkrouter" or "192.168.0.1" into the address bar. Press "Enter" to go to the D-Link DIR 655 Web-based configuration tool.

    • 2). Input the login credentials into the username and password field, then enter the authentication code. Click "Log In."

    • 3). Click the "Advanced" tab. Click the "QoS Engine." Confirm "Enable Traffic Shaping," "Automatic Uplink Speed," "Enable QoS Engine," "Automatic Classification" and "Dynamic Fragmentation" are all checked. Disabling the QoS settings can cause slow Internet when running gaming or interactive applications. Click "Save Settings."

    • 4). Go to "Access Control." Uncheck "Enable Access Control." Click "Save Settings." Click "Advanced Wireless Settings." Select "High" from the "Transmit Power" drop-down menu.

    • 5). Confirm "RTS Threshold" and "Fragmentation Threshold" are set to "2346." Click "Save Settings" to improve the D-Link DIR 655 data transfer methods.

    • 6). Select the "Tools" tab, then click "Firmware." Click "Check Now" to see if firmware updates are available. Download the latest firmware to your computer, if a new version is available.

    • 7). Connect an Ethernet cable to the router, then insert the other end of the cable into the Ethernet port on the back or side of the computer. Click "Browse" on the "Firmware" screen.

    • 8). Go to the folder where the firmware update is saved. Double-click the file, then click "Upload," to update the router to the latest firmware. Don't disconnect from the Internet or reset the router until the firmware update is complete.

    • 9). Test the Internet after upgrading the DIR 655 firmware. If you still have a problem with slow Internet, contact D-Link and your Internet Service Provider for more support.
