Wales is looking forward to a big 2010 thanks to the arrival of one of the worlds premier sporting events.
In October 2010 Wales plays host to the Ryder Cup, the epic golfing contest between Europe and USA.
The Ryder Cup dates back to 1926 when an exhibition match between British and American golfers took place at Wentworth Club, Surrey, England.
The following year the first competitive match took place won by the USA team in Massachusetts.
The competition then continued being held every two years, alternating its locations between America and Britain.
The competition took a 10 year break at the outset of World War Two but continued in 1947.
In 1973 Ireland joined Britain in hope of ending years of American domination, then in 1979 the competition was expanded beyond the British isle and a new European team was formed featuring the best golfers from across the continent.
After the inclusion on Europe the Ryder Cup became a much more even contest with the hallowed trophy regularly changing hands.
The huge interest the Cup receives can be pinpointed to the inclusion of Europe into the event.
The contest is now an international sporting event and is often so evenly matched that the slightest of errors can change the course of the whole competition.
With such excitement and tension surrounding the Ryder Cup its no wonder that every two years golf enthusiasts and novices alike get caught up in the battle and for three days are glued to their TV sets to see the out come.
This year though Welsh fans wont have to sit in front of their TVs, they will be able to go along for themselves and witness history in the making first hand.
Its not just fans from Wales who will be enjoying the sceptical, people from all across Europe and America are expected to visit Wales to soak up the unique atmosphere.
With the contest, taking place in Wales visitors can not only expect first class golf but away from the course they can experience all the wonders that Wales has to offer.
There are a whole host of great attractions sure to delight and entertain visitors to Wales, even come October when Autumn is starting to set in.
If you are one of the luck ones who have tickets to the 2010 Ryder Cup make sure you experience what Wales has to offer away from the golf course so you can have a truly memorable weekend.
