Basketball Made Easy
To know how to play basketball is easy.
You simply bounce the ball and hurry to the other end of the court, shoot the basket, and score.
This is only if you are playing alone.
Playing basketball with a team requires a little more than handling the ball alone plus you also have to worry about the other team staling the fall from you.
Like any other sport, basketball has positions on a team that need to be filled.
These positions are to direct the player to do a certain job.
As with any competition, in order to win the game your team has to score more points than the opponent.
Fist you have to be physically and mentally ready to play the game.
This means anything that happens off the court stays off the court.
Your priority at that moment is to win the game.
In doing so, you have to part of the team and take your position.
There are three positions that are played on each team.
You have the offense and defense teams.
Which ever team is in control of the ball is the offensive team.
The offense team, which includes the center, forward, and guard, has different jobs than the defense.
The center position usually goes to the tallest player because they are positioned near the basket and have to block shots that the other team throws.
The forward sometimes stands under the hoop but is mostly a universal position because at times the forward plays the outer parts of the court.
Finally, the guard is the player who dribbles the ball and moves quickest because their job is to get down the court and set up plays.
Once you have established your positions the center has to try get an open shot to score and the forward has to try and open up space so teammates can get through and shoot the ball.
They also have the ability to shoot the ball from the outer area of the court.
The guard is responsible for getting the ball down the court quickly.
As the offensive team is making their way down the court, the defensive center, forward, and guard begin there duties.
The center has to ensure the opponent does not score by blocking the shots.
The forward protects the rebounds made by the offense so they don't get possession of the ball again and try to score.
The guard must keep the player with the ball out of close range and tries very hard to steal the ball by blocking passes.
Both the offense and defense have to try and carry out their position responsibilities without fouling the opponent.
A foul will give the opponent the opportunity to shoot two or three shots without getting blocked which is called a free throw.
The object of the game is scoring as many points as you can by making the baskets.
The team with the most points at the end of the fourth quarter is declared the winner.
