Pain and itching in the rectal area can be a great discomfort and embarrassment.
This can be caused by many factors some of which are purely hygienic and some of which are caused by hemorrhoids or piles as they are more commonly known.
How do you know that the discomfort is caused by hemorrhoids and not something more or less serious? Hemorrhoids are essentially swollen blood vessels in the rectal area and can be safely treated with over the counter medicines and creams.
If the symptoms persist you are encouraged to seek medical advice because in extreme cases they made need surgical procedures to cure.
The most common symptoms of hemorrhoids are: 1.
bleeding, often painless.
The patient may notice blood on the toilet paper or in the toilet bowl.

itching and/or irritation in the anal area 3.
discomfort and pain in the anal region 4.
lumps protruding from the anal region 5.
swelling(s) in the anal region 6.
a lump which may be sensitive or painful near your anus 7.
feces may leak when you least expect it Usually, there is more than one of the above symptoms present.
The more you have, the greater the likelihood that you have hemorrhoids and the greater need to do something about it.
Some of the symptoms can be alleviated with proprietary ointments and creams.
There are a number of treatment plans on the market and there are medical solutions from your doctor or medical practitioner.
Some treatments do reduce the pain and discomfort but do nothing to help remove the root cause of the problem.
Most people - and there are millions of sufferers - do eventually need to find a treatment that works for them.
Hemorrhoids which go untreated do develop into more serious conditions which can then require surgery to fix.
Early treatment is therefore strongly recommended.
