    Horse

    • In this basketball game, the goal is to avoid accruing all of the letters of the word "horse." There are many variations of this game, but perhaps the simplest for a P.E. class is to allow the players to shoot the basketball from a predetermined spot on the court, and each player who misses the shot will get a letter of the word. Each person who ends up with all five letters is "out," and the last person standing wins.

    Dodge Ball

    • Out of the many variations of dodge ball, perhaps the simplest is to appoint one to three students as throwers and allow the rest to be dodgers. Use a large, lightweight rubber ball. Each time a dodger fails to dodge and is hit by the ball hurled by a thrower, that dodger is out. The last student standing wins the game. More complex versions of this game can provide more of a challenge, especially for older students.

    Kickball

    • Kickball is very similar to baseball, except that it uses a large, lightweight rubber ball and the players kick it instead of hitting it with a bat. There should be two teams, and the basic rules involve rolling the ball to the player at home plate, who tries to kick it and avoid being "out." If the ball is caught on a fly after he kicks it, or if the player is hit by the ball thrown by a fielder before he reaches a base, she is "out."

Once a team gets three outs, the teams should switch sides. A team gets a point for every player to make it around the bases and back to home. The end of the game can be determined by time or by number of rounds, and the team with the most points wins.

    Red Light/Green Light

    • For this game, one student should be the stoplight, and the others should be trying to reach him. Designate a distance from the stoplight that the students should begin from, and then start the game. The stoplight should keep his back to the other kids and direct their movements by saying "green light" or "red light." When he says "green light," the kids can move as fast as they want toward him. But at any time he can say "red light," and any player who moves after red light is called is out. The stoplight wins if no players are able to reach him, but otherwise the first player to reach the stoplight wins.
