Unearthly Trance is a New York trio that's been around since 2000. The band's fourth full-length was once again recorded by Sanford Parker (Pelican, Rwake, Yakuza, Brutal Truth) at his Volume Recording Studios in Chicago.

Electrocution is devastatingly heavy doom metal. The monstrous riffs rumble and thunder alongside the pounding drums. There's some variety in tempo, but it mainly churns forward at a medium pace.

The songs can get pretty long, with some clocking in at 6, 7 and even 12 minutes. Fatigue and repetition really start to set on on those longer tracks, there's just not enough variety to maintain interest for that long.

Unearthly Trance is a technically solid band with great musical chops, but could use a few more memorable hooks and riffs to liven up the proceedings. Electrocution is a decent doom metal CD, but had the potential to be much better.
