Memphis Downtown Holiday Parade
The Downtown Holiday Parade takes place every year and proceeds down South Main Street from G.E. Patterson to Beale Street. The Center City Commission puts on the parade with much enthusiastic community participation, and it is a great kickoff to the holiday season.
A large crowd lines the street the entire stretch of the parade route with kids shouting for candy and waving to the parade participants.
Even in the cold, each passing entry receives an enthusiastic reception as holiday spirit fills the air.
Each year, a number of groups are represented such as high school marching bands, Memphis Film Commission, the South Main Association, Memphis Roller Derby, the Memphis Fire Department, Memphis Kings Scooter Club, Miss Memphis, the Highland Hundred (Memphis Tigers supporters), Calhoun's Sports Bar, and of course, Santa Claus.
